Zola: Big Bang

You’ve all heard of the Big Bang theory, but have you heard the story of how it happened?  Pour a glass of wine and get comfortable… This is one for the ages.

God and I go way back — back to the beginning of time.  I was a young PhD student in Environmental Studies and he was this tall, dark and handsome stranger.

He asked me out, one thing led to another and the next thing I know we were back at his apartment.  You see, this was more than a crush, this was millenia in the making.  That night, we made love… The same way any two supernatural entities do.  The details are private, but let’s just say they don’t call it the “Big Bang” for nothing!

The result was the creation of the Milky Way galaxy, stars, planets, and yes, Earth itself.  Eventually, this led to the origin of life on your planet.  You see, the elements that make up the universe are the same four elements that make up all organisms: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen and Nitrogen.  These four elements in the human body account for more than 99 per cent of the atoms inside you. These building blocks formed into lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids, and nucleic acids.  They then formed into proteins, then cells and eventually into organisms.  These organisms evolved into plants, animals, and eventually human beings.  The entire process took 6 million years, with humanity taking about 200,000 years.

Civilization, as you know it, took around 6,000 years, but the industrialization era only took place in the 1800s.  Since then, technological advancements were constantly being made to advance society.  Until, finally, we arrive at where we are today!

Where were God and I during all this time?  We were watching and picking favorites through a process called: Natural Selection.  It’s sort of like how Goldilocks knew which porridge was just right for her; we’d select organisms that fit what we liked.  Everything else perished — either naturally or by some other means.  The point is, only the best survived.

You are amongst our favorites.  If you’re reading this, Neil chose you because we chose him.  Wonderful feeling, isn’t it?  The question I have now for you is, who will you choose?
