Dylan: Father

Biological

My dad passed away in January 2017.  In the last few years he suffered from dementia: a horrible disease which causes impairment in memory, communication, and thinking.  In other words, it slowly destroys everything that makes you human.

Earlier in life, he used to tell me these really detailed and long-winded stories.  I was young and never really paid much attention to them.  That’s probably my biggest regret today, because I’m sure they were all meaningful and were meant to teach me something.

His personality was the complete opposite of mine.  Very dominating, aggressive and extroverted.  Still, he was proud of me when I graduated university, got my first full time job, and always believed I would achieve greatness.  I wish he could see me now.

CEO/Presidents

The other father figures I’d like to discuss are the true bosses out there.  These men take on the responsibility of caring, financing, and protecting their whole companies.

I’ve worked at a few companies and found that true leadership always comes from the top.  I’ve always respected my managers, but whenever I had the opportunity to speak with corporate leaders, it was always a magical experience.  I carry the advice you’ve each shared with me to this very day.

Teachers/Professors

These weren’t all male, but still, they acted as great role models for me during my education.  You took the time to teach me things I never knew, and spoke your expertise on subjects I’d never dream I’d be using today.

Educating people is so important.  Communicating ideas and knowing how to illustrate a point in a clear way, is something we do without even thinking.  You should thank your educators for that.  Without them, we’d still be etching our thoughts on the walls of caves.

Spiritual

Last but not least, there’s our heavenly Father.  His role in my life has been monumental.  Always watching over me. Pointing out mistakes so I can learn.  Guiding me across oceans of fear.  And finally, for giving me the strength to face the world each day.

His Earth angels: Pope Francis, Dalai Lama, Richard Dawkins, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Joel Osteen.  These men have all shaped my viewpoints on the universe and life itself.  Thank you for being alive during my lifetime.  You’re all truly inspiring.  I’ll continue to follow you for the rest of my life.

To all the “fathers” out there, I just want to take this moment to thank you.  I will try my best to live up to each and every one of your high standards.
